Hotel Akabar
A modest, modern mid-range choice with some local atmosphere and a more friendly feel than its larger chain neighbours. Feels a little out of the way and is a taxi ride or long walk to the old town centre. The main downside is the tiny pool area.
Exterior
A modern, 5-storey, pink building with blue metal trim. A small gift shop sits inside the grounds beside the entrance.
Property type: Hotel
Interior
The compact interior is neat and tidy, with an intricately carved plaster-walled lobby which has bright red seating covered in vivid cushions. The restaurant has a high patterned ceiling and the adjoining pocket-sized bar has a chrome-topped counter, green marble tables, raffia chairs and opens to the poolside terrace.
Rooms: 50
Grounds
A tiny pool terrace is screened from the road by a wall and suffers some traffic noise. There are no sunbeds but a couple of attractive wrought-iron tables and chairs offer a pleasant spot to sip mint tea.
Location
Area Type: In the Hivernage district beside a wide leafy residential avenue, in an area of smart hotels and private residences. No amenities in the immediate vicinity.
