ATTICA
Attica is the most densely populated prefecture in Greece in the southern most point of central Greece. It is made up of the capital (Athens), Athen’s peninsula, part of the Peloponnese Peninsula and a number of islands in the Aegean Sea. It is an extremely mountainous region with many ranges (Kithairon, Parnitha, Aigaleo, Penteli, Hymettus and Geraneia) providing wonderful views. It is mostly forested with far-reaching grasslands and the long and indented coastline have many cliffs, rocky headlands and endless sandy beaches. It has a population of about four million.
The climate is mainly Mediterranean/subtropical, with a short wet period in the winter, long dry periods in the summer and is particularly susceptible to extreme summer heat.
There are the wonderful beaches of Sounio, Glyfada, Nea Makri, to name but a few, where many luxurious hotel, villas and apartments are located. Many museums and archaeological sites, especially the Acropolis and Parthenon, can be found in the region.
